Kihei High School

Year: 2018
Client: Department of Education

The State of Hawaii’s Department of Education designed and is now in construction of the new Kihei High School on the island of Maui. RHA Energy Partners, as a subconsultant to G70 (Prime), provided engineering services for the technical and financial evaluation of viable on-site solar PV and battery energy storage systems for the new Kihei High School.

The preliminary design and evaluation identified viable and cost-effective means to achieve a 100% net-zero energy goal for the high school to reduce long-term operating energy costs, increase site sustainability, provide redundant power from the electric utility grid, and to increase the school’s resiliency, as a future potential community disaster recovery shelter site. Services included preliminary design and modelling of renewable energy system production, and detailed financial evaluation of various project financing models and procurement project delivery methods.
